Description
Magnetic Powder Inspection is one pf the nondestructive detection method to detect the surface defects of ferromagnetic materials by the accumulation of magnetic powder in the leaky magnetic field near the defect. The workpieces made of magnetic materials such as iron and steel are magnetized, and the characteristics of the leakage magnetic energy at the defect site can show the detection of the surface defects of the detected object according to the magnetic powder distribution. In industry, magnetic particle flaw detection can be used for the final inspection of finished products to ensure that no defects will occur on the surface of workpieces after various processing procedures (such as welding, metal heat treatment, grinding). It can also be used for the inspection of semi-finished products in order to find the existing surface defects.
Features
Magnetic Powder Inspection is very effective for inspection of defects such as surface cracks of steel materials or workpieces. The required equipment and related operations are relatively simple. It has fast inspection speed and high sensitivity, which is convenient for on-site flaw detection of large equipment and workpieces, and the inspection cost is low. It should be noted that this method is only applicable to ferromagnetic materials, and can only detect the length and shape of defects, but it is difficult to determine their depth. For the castings to be inspected, the surface shall be smooth before testing.
Superior Detection Capability:
Identifies surface and near-surface discontinuities
Detects fatigue cracks, seams, and inclusions
Works on complex geometries
Suitable for rough surfaces
Technical Process Advantages:
Portable equipment for field inspections
Fast inspection cycle (2-5 minutes per part)
Permanent record capability
Minimal surface preparation required
